Zohvi Privacy Policy (DRAFT for legal review)
Effective date: [DATE] Who we are: Zohvi is provided by [LEGAL NAME OF OWNER], [ADDRESS] ("we"). Contact: [SUPPORT EMAIL].
What Zohvi is
Zohvi is an app of short, narrated, illustrated stories from public-domain books such as the Bible and the Bhagavad Gita.
What we collect
Information you give us
- Your email address and password, to create and secure your account. Passwords are handled by Google Firebase Authentication; we never see them.
- If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive only your email address from them (with Apple, you can hide it behind a relay address), never your name, picture or contacts.
- You can also browse as a guest, without giving an email address. A guest's feed is never personalised. A guest account and everything in it is deleted if it goes unused for 60 days, or straight away if you leave guest mode.
- Your age range (under 13, 13-17, or 18 and over), to apply the age rules below.
- Your choices: story language, interests, and, if you choose to share it, how you feel right now.
- Your feedback: "more like this", and your answers to an occasional one-tap question ("Did this story speak to you?"), which you can turn off in Profile.
- Story requests you write (adults only). Only you and our team see your words; other users only see titles our team writes for stories we plan. Your words are deleted with your account.
Information from using Zohvi
- What you watch and how: which stories, for how long, whether you finished, paused or replayed them, and when you like, save, share or mark "not interested".
- Your local date and time of day, so that "today" means your day.
Information from your device and connection
- Your country and state or region, and your network provider, worked out from your internet (IP) address. We look the address up and then discard it; we never store it.
- Your time zone, language and region settings.
- The kind of device you use: make, model, operating system and app version, screen and text size, accessibility settings such as reduced motion, and your connection type (Wi-Fi, 4G or 5G).
- Crash reports, which contain technical details of the error and the device, but not your email or account.
What we never collect: your precise location, contacts, photos, microphone, the list of other apps on your device, any advertising identifier or device identifier, or payment details.
Religious and other beliefs
What you watch may reveal your religious or philosophical beliefs. We never ask about your beliefs. If you are 18 or over and choose to personalise your feed, we learn which themes you are drawn to (for example "faith" or "duty") so we can suggest stories. Personalisation is off unless you turn it on. You can turn it off, reset it, or delete it at any time in Profile → Privacy.
How we use it
- To run your account and the app.
- Only if you opted in: to personalise your feed using what you watch, keeping a daily summary of the themes and moods you engaged with for 90 days.
- To understand our audience in aggregate (for example, which stories are watched in which regions) and to fix problems.
We do not sell your data, use it for advertising, or share it with advertisers.
Children and teenagers
- Zohvi is not for children under 13. If you tell us you are under 13, we delete the account immediately.
- For users aged 13-17, Zohvi does not personalise the feed, keep viewing history for personalisation, or keep daily summaries.
- [LEGAL: confirm whether verifiable parental consent is required under the DPDP Act for 13-17-year-olds to hold an account at all.]
Who processes your data
Your data is stored and processed by our service providers, only to run Zohvi:
- Google Cloud and Firebase: hosting, database, sign-in and analytics storage. Data is stored in the United States.
- Sentry: crash reports.
We may disclose information if the law requires it.
How long we keep it
| Data | How long |
|---|---|
| Account, choices and watch history | Until you delete your account |
| Guest accounts and everything in them | Until 60 days after last use, or until you leave guest mode |
| Story requests you wrote, and your votes | Until you delete your account |
| Daily summaries (personalisation only) | 90 days |
| Analytics events | Up to 400 days |
| Crash reports | Per Sentry's retention, up to 90 days |
When you delete your account, your account and data are deleted immediately, and your analytics events within about a day.
Your choices and rights
In the app, under Profile → Privacy, you can:
- See your data, all of it as we store it
- Turn personalisation off, which also clears what was learned
- Reset recommendations
- Delete your account and all your data
You can also contact [SUPPORT EMAIL] to access, correct or delete your data, to withdraw consent, or to complain. In India you may also contact our Grievance Officer: [NAME, EMAIL], and the Data Protection Board of India. In the US, depending on your state, you may have rights to know, correct, delete and opt out. We do not sell or "share" personal information for targeted advertising.
Security
Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Access is limited to the services that need it.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will tell you in the app, and ask for your agreement again where the law requires.
